Did You Know?

Sepsis

A severe, untreated infection can lead to a condition known as sepsis, when the infection travels to the bloodstream. This can damage different organs as the body reacts through inflammation. Symptoms and effects can be mild to severe. If the sepsis is untreated, the inflammation will lead to poor blood flow and perfusion of vital organs such as the heart and brain, as well as the kidneys. Worst case scenario is multi-organ failure and tissue death (gangrene). The mortality rate of septic shock is 50 percent.
